My Position plus The Rest of the Story

My position on Science, Religion, and the Nature of Existence

I am not a scientist, but I believe in science. I would never argue with a scientist on any scientific subject. But I would argue with them when they venture into territories that have nothing to do with science.

I am not religious, in fact, I am strongly anti-religious. I am a Darwinian. Life on earth evolved via natural selection. I see no evidence for biological intelligent design. I think it is very likely that life also evolved in many other places throughout the universe. That is, however, only a logical deduction. There is no scientific evidence of other life in the universe, and likely any such evidence will forever be beyond our reach.

I agree with perhaps ninety to ninety-five percent of cosmologists who agree that the universe is extremely fine-tuned. However, there is no scientific evidence as to how the universe became so fine-tuned. However, I believe the logical conclusion points to some kind of cosmic entity or intelligence as a fine-tuner. And if that is the case, then this fine-tuner would likely have a logical reason for doing so.

I agree with many scientists, like Jim Baggott, John Horgan, Sabine Hossenfelder, and many others, that such concepts as the multiverse, string theory, and the anthropic principle are not science. To quote John Horgan, “These multiverse theories all share the same fundamental defect: They can be neither confirmed nor falsified. Hence, they don’t deserve to be called Science. – Multiverse theories aren’t theories—they’re science fiction, theologies, works of the imagination unconstrained by evidence.”

I am not a materialist. I believe there is overwhelming evidence for the existence of the non-physical spiritual world. I believe that evidence is denied because of, in the words of Neal Grossman, resistance to a paradigm change, intellectual arrogance, and social taboo.

That evidence will be discussed in future essays on this blog. These essays will, very likely, be part of my next and last book.

But for now, enjoy the short essay below.

Sodom and Gomorrah

The Rest of the Story

You have all heard of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah or at least the story as it is told in the first 26 verses of Genesis, Chapter 19. That is the verse that tells us that Lot’s wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. And that is where the story ends as it was taught to most children in Sunday School as well as preachers from the pulpit when they preach against the sins of homosexuality. They never tell you what happened in the final 12 verses of the chapter. And they have a damn good reason for keeping totally silent about what happens in those final verses.

Just a brief look at those first 26 verses.

Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom when two angels approached him. Apparently, these two angels looked just like ordinary men because that was what the rest of the male population thought they were, and apparently, so did Lot. Lot invited them to stay the night at his house, telling them that they could wash their feet and be on their way in the morning.

They replied, “Nay, we will just sleep in the street.”

But Lot managed to convince them to stay at his house for the night. He made them a feast, and they ate.

But about then, all hell broke loose. The men of Sodom gathered around Lot’s house, demanding that he send out the two angels, whom they thought were just ordinary men, so they all could bugger them in the ass. Well, they actually said so they could “know” them. But that is biblical talk for doing the nasty.

But Lot begged them to leave the two strangers alone. Lot told them that he had two virgin daughters and asked to please take them and rape them instead of the two strangers he had given shelter for the night.

But the men tried to break Lot’s door down so they could rape the men instead of his two daughters.

But the two men, who were actually angels, pulled Lot back in and shut the door. Then they struck all the men blind.

Now one would think that these men, suddenly finding themselves stone blind, would panic and start running around screaming, “I am blind, I am blind.”

But no, that’s not what happened at all. They all still had nothing but sex on their mind. Blind or not, what they all wanted was to screw these two good-looking guys. Sex was more important than their eyesight.

Then the angels told Lot to gather all his family together and get out of the city because they were going to destroy it.

Then Lot went out and tried to convince his two sons-in-law, who were married to his two virgin daughters, to come with him and flee the city. But nay, they wanted to stay and screw the two men.

Then the angels told Lot, his wife, and two daughters to escape to the mountains and not look back.

Then the Lord rained fire and brimstone upon the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Apparently, there were a bunch of homosexuals living in Gomorrah, so since the Lord was pelting Sodom with fire and brimstone, he would just take care of Gomorrah while he was at it.

But Lot’s wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.

And that’s where the Sunday School story ends.

Beginning with verse 30 of Genesis 19 the Bible tells us that Lot and his two daughters then dwelt in a cave in the mountain.

The two daughters began to worry that the seed of their father would die out because there were no men around for them to marry. So they decided to get their daddy drunk and screw him and get pregnant by daddy so his seed would not die out.

Quoting verse 33 from the King James version:

And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

The next day the older daughter told the younger daughter what she did last night and now it was her turn to get daddy drunk and screw him. So she did. Verse 35 – 38:

And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

And so ends the rest of the story.

Naturally, they both got pregnant on their first try. It had to be so or else they might have run out of wine to get daddy drunk. Wine is hard to come by when you are living in a cave. And who knows, next time, he might wake up and wonder why he was screwing his daughter in his sleep. 🤣

And naturally, they both had sons else they could not father the tribes of Moab and Ammon.

I am not a scientist, but I believe in science. I would never argue with a scientist on any scientific subject.

That is piss weak. You are appealing to authority like people appealing to the power of the pope in the dark ages. Science should always be challenged and the only authority is evidence. If evidence is non-existent or extremely difficult to replicate or show, then no one is in a position of authority to say shit.

Iron Mike

Measuring the speed of light is replicable in every laboratory on the third rock. But any claim a cosmologist makes based on theoretical evidence is open to questioning, regardless of their prestige and position.

Ron you are one of those people who would have blindly followed Ptolemys model of the solar system, because you give authority to someone who claim to knows more than you based on their position.

It’s not about presumption to know more, its about challenging or at the very least questioning. If you don’t question cosmologists hypothesis or theories because you see them as authority figures, you are appealing to authority.

No worries Ron.
Meanwhile this is what i agree with.

This goes with a lot of so called “science” now days. He is dead now, but if he was alive he would have probably called out this scientism that is going on these days.

The words belief and science shouldn’t be used in the same sentence in my opinion.

Ron when did i mention quantum mechanics or claim it to be false in our discussion ?

Again for me it isn’t a question of belief it is just factual observable experiments, it is irrelevant whether one believes in it or not.

Iron Mike

That’s correct.

And there is no beliefs in quantum mechanics. There are experimentations/observation of phenomena in qm (I am using qm as an example but it can be extrapolated to every branch of science). Certain facts are established about the natural world due to experimentation/observations.

The beliefs come when we have to interpretate the results of experimentations/observations of qm. Now these many interpretations require belief to accept based on ones bias and perspective. However none of these interpretations could be correct.

So let me draw a conclusion here, experimental and observations in qm discovers phenomena about the natural world about how subatomic particles behave. Belief doesn’t exist in this realm.

We have to try draw interpretations to make sense of these phenomena. Beliefs enters in this realm. And hence no one can say with any authority what flavour of interpretation is right. Chances are all of them are actually wrong.

In other words QM theory is as solid as science gets.
QM interpretations are the weakest form of science.

I too believe the odds are overwhelmingly high that life of some kind exists elsewhere in the universe, too many planets not to. Of course evolution wouldn’t have happened exactly the same way twice so that other life would be different from our life here. God (or the spirit world as you say you have belief in) is probably trying out many different experiments all over the universe and awaiting the results! I hope he’s not too disappointed! Hahahaha

Great Job as always Ron.

“I believe there is overwhelming evidence for the existence of the non-physical spiritual world”

I look forward to seeing this overwhelming evidence
